Happy Birthday" Nail Polish!

Its perfect timing to find a fantastic dupe for Deborah Lippman Happy Birthday polish because right now Deb is doing her rounds on HSN presenting some of her new nail kits, one of which, includes the super popular multi-colored glitter polish, Happy Birthday. So it was a welcome coincidence that I was at CVS today and came across an exact dupe in Milani "Gems" for around $5. DL glittler polishes run around $20 so you are saving a good $15 for, like I said, an EXACT dupe. I can't speak to the quality similarities between the two as far as formula and lasting power goes but as far as the appearance, Milani Gems is a dead ringer. Right down to the various shapes and sizes of the confetti-like glitter and how much coverage you get with each coat. It's downright scary. Milani must have someone on the inside because they nailed this dupe to a tee! Take into consideration when looking at Milani VS DL, it does matter which polish you wear underneath it to determine how it will look. I tried to find pictures where there wasn't an obvious color like pink or blue underneath the glitter polish because I found that it may cloud the judgment of the similarities between the two.

Cover Girl Lashblast

The infamous and beloved Lashblast. Perhaps the current best selling drugstore mascara to date. This is not a fact, but rather, a presumption. I've been trying to decide whether I like this stuff for the last year or more. Something I do like about it is the large brush, but on the flipside the large brush makes it hard to get the lower lashes without looking like you've applied eyeliner instead of mascara. I do think Lashblast holds the curl very well and stays throughout the day. The downside is that it makes my lashes crispy and spiky if I don't hurry the hell up and put a few coats on back to back to back before it dries. Lashblast is rather volumizing but not sure sure about lengthening. I am proud of CG for finally being a frontrunner for drugstore mascara when the category has always (in my opinion) belonged to L'Oreal.

OOTD & First Thoughts on Bumble and Bumble "Texture"

Happy Friday everyone!  BIG THANKS to all of the ladies who gave their advice on home staging in my previous post---I appreciate the input and I'm gearing up for a long weekend of cleaning and organizing!

For casual Friday today, I wore my Gap skinnies and my white peasant top that many of you loved when I first posted an outfit with it.  I'm starting to love this top more and more each time I wear it.
Speaking of skinny jeans, I am loving Kate Middleton's J. Brand navy blue skinnies she's been wearing on her and Will's Canadian tour. I think I may need to get myself a pair (or something similar). All I have are my black ones and navy is so versatile! They are the

and here's today's outfit:

Sandals- Steve Madden
I also wanted to share in this post my first thoughts on Bumble and Bumble's "texture" product that I blogged about the other day:

As I mentioned, the product is meant to be used on wet hair and then either air-dried or dried with a diffuser. Because I'm such a beauty rebel (haha) I decided to use it just from the nape of my neck down to my ends and do a full blowout with Velcro rollers.

I had read online that the product has a lot of "grip" and "style memory" so I wanted to test it out and I must say, I was impressed with the shape my layers had and it seemed to me as though my hair was more "flippy" than usual.

Let's see if you agree:

My next test will be to attempt to use it and air-dry my hair.  The very thought of it traumatizes me because I don't have a hair type that I can air dry and it will still look good---but I want to try out the product as it's intended to be used. My plan is to wash my hair at night and apply the product in my hair and then sleep on it and blow-dry out any existing moisture in the morning---then I'll maybe add some curls with a curling iron and see how the product makes my hair take on shape.  More on that to come...

Hope everyone has a great weekend---if I'm not posting, it's because I'm cleaning...like crazy.

Veronika.

A Poll for My Readers: Staging Your Home

My H and I are planning on spending this entire weekend cleaning and staging our home because we have a photographer coming in on Tuesday to take photographs for our listing.

I'm wondering what you ladies think.  If you were buying a home, would you want:

A) The home to be staged and very minimalistic----no personal touches, very minimal decor

B)  The home to have deorative elements that are tasteful and enchance the look of the home, as long as the home is otherwise clean and clutter-free

C)  Leave the home as-is, clutter doesn't matter to me because I imagine my own stuff in it anyway

When I look at a home listing's photos, the first thing I notice is the decor---and if the home is clean, well organized and nicely put together (even if the decor is not necessaily my style) I tend to like that most.  I'm more attracted to a home when it's nicely decorated but I also appreciate an empty home (which is not an option for us).

What do you ladies think?  Let me know in the comments below! and OF COURSE I plan to post pictures of how everything turned out with our staging :)

Product Rave: Serge Normant Meta Revive Dry Shampoo with Cedar Bark

I hate that I am writing such a rave review about this product because it costs $25 a bottle...but it's $25 VERY well spent and I simply cannot contain my love for this product.

"Another dry shampoo?" you ask. Yes ladies, unfortunately for us all, I think I have found the holy grail of dry shampoos

Now, before I get into this, I want to say that I still LOVE the Suave dry shampoo and will continue to buy it.  For under $3, you just can't lose.

My mother in law bought me this Serge Normant dry shampoo for my birthday after she saw Julia Roberts talk about it on Oprah.  If it works for Julia Roberts, it must be awesome, right?  I must admit, I had some doubts since I was still in my total cloud of love for the Suave dry shampoo, but I gave it a go anyway.
Julia Roberts has some pretty awesome hair!

The first couple of times I used it I liked it but I didn't get that "OMG if they stop making this I'll die" feeling.  It was good, smelled nice.

It wasn't until more recently that I have come to love and fully appreciate this product beyond belief. Here's why I love it:
  • Out of all of the dry shampoos I've used, it makes my hair FEEL and SMELL the most clean
  • The smell is awesome...very fresh and almost a little woodsy...hard to explain...must be the cedar bark
  • Does not feel sticky or gummy AT ALL
  • Restores volume easily
  • Can be used several days in a row without build-up
  • Hair can be restyled day after day even with this product in it
  • Does not make my scalp feel dry
There is just something about the way it feels that is a little different than other dry shampoos. When I spray it on, you can see a very slight whiteness to it but it completely disappears.   I just brush my roots after I apply it (let it dry for 30-seconds to a minute) and voila- pretty hair again!

I plan to repurchase this when I run out of the bottle I received as a gift because I love it just that much! For those of you who recall, it's the same dry shampoo I used during my trip to Austin. I used it for 3 days in a row until I was up to 5th day hair---and my hair looked pretty decent, considering (I was on vacation spending all day outside and on a boat, so there was no point in washing my hair.)
(a reminder of what my 5th day hair looked like after using this product)

A dry shampoo that can make my 5th day hair look pretty great is a winner in my books. Have you tried this product? Let me know what you think in the comments below!  You can buy the Serge Normant Meta Revive Dry Shampoo with Cedar Bark on Amazon.com.

xoxo,

Veronika.

anna nicole smith Anna Nicole Smith’s Estate Loses Supreme Court Case

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court ruled Thursday against the estate of Anna Nicole Smith, the Playboy Playmate whose marriage to the Texas oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, 63 years her senior, led to an epic set of lawsuits between her and his son.

Anna Nicole Smith, a former Playboy Playmate and reality television star, at the Supreme Court in 2006. She died a year later.
All of the principals in the drama have by now died, but the case lived on long enough to give rise to a significant and closely divided ruling on the separation of powers in the context of bankruptcy.
Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., writing for the majority, held unconstitutional a provision of the bankruptcy laws that authorized bankruptcy judges to hear some kinds of claims. Because bankruptcy judges do not have the protections of life tenure guaranteed by Article III of the Constitution, the chief justice wrote, they may not decide “a common law cause of action, when the action neither derives from nor depends on any agency regulatory regime.”
That had the effect of overturning a bankruptcy court award to Ms. Smith, whose real name was Vickie Lynn Marshall, that at one point exceeded $400 million. She had asserted that Mr. Marshall’s son E. Pierce Marshall had wrongfully interfered with a gift she had expected from his father.
Chief Justice Roberts cited both Dickens’s “Bleak House” and foundational constitutional principles in explaining the decision. Under a contrary ruling, he said, “Article III would be transformed from the guardian of individual liberty and separation of powers we have long recognized into mere wishful thinking.
Still, he said, the decision “does not change all that much.” It was, he wrote, a matter of principle. “A statute may no more lawfully chip away at the authority of the judicial branch than it may eliminate it entirely,” the chief justice wrote.
Justices Antonin Scalia, Anthony M. Kennedy, Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito Jr. joined the majority opinion.
Justice Stephen G. Breyer dissented, saying the majority had elevated form over substance and should have instead considered the case pragmatically. He said the magnitude of the intrusion on the judicial branch was minimal, while the costs to the system of insisting that claims like Ms. Smith’s be heard on federal district courts were daunting.
“A constitutionally required game of jurisdictional Ping-Pong between courts,” he wrote, “would lead to inefficiency, increased cost, delay and needless additional suffering among those faced with bankruptcy.”
Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan joined the dissent in the case, Stern v. Marshall, No. 10-179.

A Day at the Park

Wow! We have been so busy getting ready for CHA and preparing for a special blog week. It has been a while since we posted anything new. Lucky for us we have an wonderful design team that keeps designing awesome projects!

Today we would like to share a project designed by Audrey. She took the themed A Fair Day collection and used it for a day at the park layout. The colors are so yummy and the combination of elements from different collections is supreme. We love the handmade touches like the painted background and doodling.

Here's what Audrey said about this beauty. "I took some of the elements from the paper with the 'fair' phrases on them and used them for a page about the park. I painted a white square on the background, and then doodled a black frame around it with a thin pen. On some of the phrases, I also outlined the letters with a pen to make them stick out more. I used a few die cuts from 'A Sunny Day' and 'Corinne'.

We hope this layout will get you excited for next week. We have a special A Fair Day week planned with loads of ideas for summer projects.
